Why we procrastinate
There are several reasons why people procrastinate, including:
- Lack of motivation: When a task doesn't seem meaningful or important to someone, they may struggle to find the motivation to get started.
- Fear of failure: Sometimes people procrastinate because they're afraid of not doing a task perfectly or failing at it.
- Difficulty getting started: Sometimes the hardest part of a task is simply getting started, and people may put it off because they don't know where to begin or feel overwhelmed.
- Perfectionism: People who hold themselves to very high standards may procrastinate because they fear they won't be able to meet those standards.
- Distractions: With so many distractions available today, it's easy to get sidetracked and put off a task until later.
- Poor time management skills: Some people struggle with managing their time effectively, leading them to procrastinate on important tasks until the last minute.
- Lack of accountability: When there's no one holding them accountable for completing a task, people may procrastinate because they don't feel any urgency to get it done.
These are just a few reasons why people may procrastinate, and often people procrastinate for multiple reasons at once.
In this section we'll go through how to tackle these reasons (if they weren't covered before).
